High-powered diode lasers, laser scanning microscopes and aspherical lenses for special optical filters are prime examples of sophisticated Thuringian-made technology. Global players such as ZEISS, Schott and Jenoptik got their start in Thuringia and set the international standard for optics.
Without the research done by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF) in Jena and the joint development efforts at ZEISS and Trumpf, the EUV-lithography systems that are produced successfully by ASML today would not exist. Roughly 10% of all German photonic companies are located in the state at the center of Germany. In addition, many companies focus on precision engineering, automation and sensor technology. Excellent research facilities and short distances guarantee strong networks and easy interaction between science and industry.
LEG Thüringen – the State Development Corporation of Thuringia – supports companies that want to set up operations in Thuringia with a comprehensive and free-of-charge service that includes selection of suitable sites, consultation about incentives and financing options and support for company foundation and recruitment of skilled personnel. On the other hand, we support local companies opening up new markets and strengthening international networks. Multiple Thuringian companies e.g. Fibotec Fiberoptics, JEVATEC, POG Präzisionsoptik Gera and ShapeFab present their solutions and technology at this year’s Precision Fair. If you are looking for new partners, suppliers and customers from a dynamic and highly innovative region, come to our booth 260 in Hall 1.
